Capital E will be host to a series of Matariki activities that acknowledge and celebrate the Māori New Year. Over the course of three weeks, from 4 July – 18 July, PlayHQ will present 3 unique performances/ workshops that engage young tamariki through taonga puoro (Māori musical instruments), kōrero paki (storytelling) and kanikani (dance).
Look out for our online programming too on 22 July with Anna from String Bean Puppets presenting a Matariki inspired online session!

Kanikani (dance), boogie and wiggle at Capital E with Catriona Tipene. We’ll be taking popular and well-loved waiata Māori and moving our tinana (body) to welcome in the tau hau Māori (Māori new year).
Taonga puoro with Jerome Kavanagh

Join award-winning taonga puoro musician Jerome Kavanagh in learning about taongo puoro instruments. Tamariki and whanau will not only learn how to make their own unique Ukutangi out of clay, but also learn how to play it themselves.
