Kiwi Moon - 2008 Tour
Capital E National Theatre for Children presents the world premiere stage adaptation of Gavin Bishop’s Kiwi Moon
![]()
March and April, May and June,
I can see you Kiwi Moon,
Will you make my wish come true
If I count to ten for you?
One, two, three, four, five …
Kiwi Moon is a charming New Zealand tale of a Kiwi’s journey of self discovery - ideal for 2-7 year olds.
A little white Kiwi thinks the moon might be his mother because it is white and bright and round like him. This story speaks of diversity and the effect that being different has on your community relationships.
Sitting alongside this narrative is the sub-story of the interaction of both Maori and Pakeha with each other and the world of the forest. To make this accessible to a young audience, it is told through the life of the little white Kiwi and other native animals and people he meets.
The Learning Stream
Step 1: First there was an egg - Curriculum strands covered in the classroom before and after the visit. Capital E provides a teaching resource with curriculum links and information to assist with unit planning.
Step 2: Out popped a little white Kiwi - Explore local bush life. What other birds live on the forest floor? Explore the night sky. Why does the moon change shape?
Step 3: He travelled through the forest - Come along to a professional performance that is musical, fun and educational and let the magic of theatre lead you through the forested world of the little white Kiwi.
Step 4: And flew up to the Moon - Return to the classroom with a universe of information and ready to learn more. Why not create a forest and night sky in your classroom full of all the characters you met in the show?
