Hinepau - National Tour 2008
"Hinepau is a stunning production that truly celebrates Maori culture in a format which is accessible, engaging and importantly, fun,” Sydney Opera House producer, Noel Jordan.
Hinepau is an enchanting, contemporary Maori tale that celebrates difference and diversity. Directed by Murray Lynch, the show speaks of staying true to oneself and honouring the environment as a taonga.
The Learning Experience
Hinepau is a thought-provoking and enriching learning experience for students covering some Key Competencies, Principles and Values in the New Zealand Curriculum.
Managing Self - Does knowing and accepting who we are make a difference? Hinepau discovers that it does. It is through her sense of self, her resilience and ability to meet challenges that she saves her people.
Relating to Others - All students experience peer group pressure. So does Hinepau. We see the effects of what happens when people don’t listen, consider others views or know when to compete or co-operate.
Cultural Heritage - The story of Hinepau demonstrates graphically and dramatically the universal nature of values across cultures and across time, from traditional Maori roots to the present day.
Care for the Environment - Do our actions have an impact on the environment? Hinepau offers strong messages about the power of nature and our place in it.
Integrity - Acting ethically and acting honestly are key themes in Hinepau. Students can decide for themselves what is right when they see the different impacts of acting with integrity and without.
